Well, we made it through the Christmas hustle and bustle. Only a few bumps and bruises to show for it, and some lovely family memories that make all the work worthwhile. Now here we are — Dec. 26, 2009. Tomorrow Steven, the kids and I will head south on our annual post-Christmas pilgrimage to Grandma’s house in North Carolina. Instead of packing like I should be, I am sitting here contemplating the New Year, and all the stuff I want to accomplish in it.
This website is way up there on the list of things I want to work hard at in 2010. I have a vision of what it could be, and this is the time to make it real. All it takes (all, she says) is a renewed commitment on my part. Commitment of time, organization, attention, consistency. I have lots of ideas – there is no lack of those. But I need to be disciplined, so that the ideas have a chance to become reality.
I took a bunch of pictures when I was in our Hudson shop the other day. I’ll share more of those later, but this one feels like an apt emblem for this pre-New Year’s ramble. What is it about babies? Such a symbol of new opportunity and growth. So here it is — we’ll start ringing in 2010 with an oversized photograph of charming, adorable baby feet!

Last year at this time, Sam Pratt (writer, community activist, all-around mover & shaker) put together a fun shopping guide for Hudson NY called Hudson Under $100. The dollar distinction is important because many people have the impression that the antique and retail stores in Hudson are very high-end, intended for and attainable by decorators, designers and upper-echelon clientele. Sam wants to change that impression, and he is at it again this December. Hudson Under $100 2009 is being created as we speak, proving that there is truly something for everyone to be found in Hudson, from the sublime to the silly, wonderful, beautiful, comical, quirky, elegant…and everything in between. (Case in point: he just added beeswax candles shaped like the Empire State building. Who doesn’t need one of those?)
He is still adding items to the site, so check it out and then go back and check it out again. Sam has a fun eye and puts together an interesting and amusing assortment of gift ideas. Just like last year, he is finding items in our Hudson shop Warren Street Antiques (see my beloved alabaster figural bookends, among others) to add to his list.
One or two of my faves so far:

So we’ll see you in Hudson – a fun and original place to do your holiday shopping. For more inspiration – here is my post featuring Sam’s picks from last year, and here is his site from last year.
