The shop has been in existence for about 7 years, and Steve and I were invited to join the other three dealers in the fall of 2007. Our partners in the shop are Tom Jardas Antiques out of Schenectady, New Scotland Antiques and Metropolis Vintage, both of Albany, NY.
New Scotland (Andy Geller & David Ornstein) deals in a wonderful array of what I think of as “real” antiques – high quality glass and porcelain, continental and American furniture, Oriental rugs, art and decorative items.
Tom Jardas finds the greatest industrial fixtures and furnishings – workbenches, stools, drawer units, lighting - as well as all manner of funky items with an eye for surface and form.
Metropolis brings art deco to mid-century vintage furnishings along with high-quality smalls and jewelry.
And then there is us, Tandem Antiques, doing our thing with modern furniture and smalls, country primitives, art, objects, and lighting.
At WSA, we have as wide a range of prices as we do merchandise, and you can find fun things for $18, $180 or $1800, depending on your taste and pocketbook. We often get a warm response from customers as they browse, and I think it is because it does not feel like a gallery, where everything is out of reach. You will have to come in and see for yourself.
Steve & I are tickled to be back in Hudson because its where we met, in an antique shop on Warren St., some 12 years ago. He was a full time shop-sitter for Howard Dawson Antiques, I was a corporate project manager on a weekend getaway…and the rest is history! Then, after I had moved upstate, Hudson is where we cut our teeth in the antiques trade. We would set up at a tiny flea market at Warren & 5th St. and sell our funny mix of vintage kitsch, moderne glass and pottery, and whatever real antiques we could put our hands on for cheap. Good times, good times.
